#Dangote: FG Earns 52 Kobo from Every N1 Made by Our Cement Business

Africa’s richest man and founder of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, says the Nigerian federal government earns 52 kobo for every N1 generated from his company’s cement operations.

Dangote made this claim during his speech at the 2025 Taraba International Investment Summit held on May 21 in Jalingo.

“It might surprise you to know that the federal government, not even the states, makes more money than we do from our cement business. For every N1 generated, 52 kobo goes to the federal government,” Dangote said.

He emphasized that governments benefit from private sector investments when they create business-friendly environments that allow companies to grow and pay taxes.

“People say government has no business in business. True. But how else do they fund schools, hospitals, roads, and other infrastructure? Through taxes,” he said.

Dangote drew comparisons to countries like the United States, which he said doesn’t own oil blocks but earns substantial revenues through taxation.

“Have you ever heard of the American government owning oil blocks? No. Yet, they’re the world’s top oil producer. Their money comes from taxes,” he added.

Dangote also stressed that foreign investors are unlikely to invest where local investors are not thriving, reaffirming his company’s long-term commitment to creating jobs and supporting local communities in Nigeria.

Dangote Petrochemicals Expands with Global Polypropylene Deal

Meanwhile, Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has announced an exclusive partnership with Premier Product Marketing LLC, a subsidiary of Vinmar Group, to distribute Dangote Polypropylene to international markets outside Africa.

This partnership aligns with the official launch of polypropylene production at the Dangote refinery and petrochemical complex in Lekki, Lagos.

According to Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, the deal will position Dangote’s products as a global brand.

“Dangote Polypropylene will join our lineup of globally recognized products for quality and reliability,” added Fatima Aliko Dangote, Group Executive Director (Commercial).

Polypropylene is a versatile plastic polymer widely used in packaging, automotive parts, textiles, construction, and medical devices due to its durability, chemical resistance, and lightweight properties.

Vinmar CEO Vishal Goradia praised the partnership:

“We’ve worked with Dangote for decades in Nigeria. Now, we’re proud to support the global rollout of Dangote Polypropylene.”

The $2 billion petrochemical plant, located in Ibeju-Lekki, is built to produce 77 grades of polypropylene with a yearly capacity of 900,000 metric tonnes and a projected annual revenue of $1.2 billion.

Vinmar, established in 1978, is a global leader in petrochemical distribution, operating 58 offices in over 110 countries and employing more than 1,500 staff.

The Dangote Refinery, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, began production of diesel and aviation fuel in January 2024.
