Dangote refutes claim of bike-based fuel distribution service

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed a viral video claiming it is partnering with a company to deliver petrol through motorcycle dispatch riders. The refinery told our correspondent on Sunday that it has no link to the video and has no idea where it originated.

The online clip shows a man ordering petrol via WhatsApp before a rider arrives with a mini dispenser attached to his bike to refill the man’s car. Branded as “FuelUp” and allegedly powered by “Dangote Petroleum,” the video sparked mixed reactions, with some praising the idea and others raising safety concerns. Many also suggested it could be AI-generated.

Dangote officials, however, labelled the video “fake.” Group Chief Communication Officer Anthony Chiejina said the refinery only supplies products to bulk buyers and has no agreement with any company to sell fuel through bikes.

The refinery recently expanded its fuel distribution with CNG-powered trucks introduced in September. It is also working on increasing its capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day as part of efforts to boost domestic supply and strengthen its role in Africa’s energy market.Headline news
