DANIEL, AMOSUN ABSENT AS OGUN APC LEADERS BACK TINUBU

Key leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, including Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Governor Olusegun Osoba, and several federal and state officials, on Wednesday endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office, describing his economic reforms as bold, courageous, and essential for Nigeria’s recovery and sustained growth.

The endorsement came during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting of the party held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta. Notably absent from the gathering were Senator Gbenga Daniel (representing Ogun East and former governor) and Senator Ibikunle Amosun (Daniel’s successor as governor).

The meeting was presided over by Governor Abiodun and state APC Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi. In attendance were:

– Former Governor Olusegun Osoba

– Four former deputy governors: Sen. Adegbenga Kaka, Prince Segun Adesegun, Alhaja Salmot Badru, and Chief Yetunde Onanuga

– Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani

– Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako

– Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, and other state lawmakers

– Senators Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Ogun West), Shuaib Salisu (Ogun Central), Gbenga Obadara, Akin Odunsi, Gbolahan Dada, and Lekan Mustapha

– Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and other federal lawmakers

– Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele

Governor Abiodun praised Tinubu’s reforms, particularly the removal of fuel and foreign exchange subsidies, as decisive actions that rescued Nigeria from economic collapse.

“At a time when the economy had severely nosedived, our president rose with courage, conviction and clarity to take hard but necessary decisions aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable development,” Abiodun said.

He cited improved fuel availability, declining inflation, a stabilising naira, rising foreign reserves (now about $45 billion), renewed investor confidence, and major infrastructure projects such as the 700-km Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and the 1,000-km Sokoto–Badagry superhighway.

Abiodun noted that foreign investors are returning in large numbers and that Ogun State itself is experiencing rapid industrial growth, with new factories emerging frequently.

He urged party members and Nigerians to support Tinubu for another four-year term to consolidate and sustain the reforms through 2031.

“In view of the bold economic reforms, focused and visible achievements, clear direction and purposeful leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose performance continues to inspire confidence at home and abroad, let’s all therefore stand up to reaffirm our trust in the President’s capacity to further lead our nation to greater height,” Abiodun declared.

Former Governor Osoba also commended Tinubu’s courage in implementing reforms that have increased government revenue and ended salary arrears in states. He rejected claims that Tinubu is working toward a one-party state, insisting that defections from opposition parties are voluntary and driven by the president’s purposeful leadership.

Osoba noted that the grassroots are yet to fully feel the benefits of the reforms and urged governors to address this gap.

The meeting underscored the APC’s unity and strength in Ogun State, with Abiodun expressing satisfaction at the turnout and reaffirming his commitment to a peaceful, rancour-free transition to his successor on May 29, 2027.

He also announced plans to construct a befitting state APC secretariat within six months.

Reflecting on his administration’s record, Abiodun highlighted achievements in infrastructure, housing (over 7,000 units delivered), healthcare, job creation, youth and women empowerment, and economic growth, with the state’s GDP now at ₦17 trillion. He credited federal support from Tinubu for many of these successes, including the recent commencement of commercial oil drilling in Ogun Waterside by NNPCL and plans for a major dairy and cattle ranch in Ipokia and Yewa South.
