Popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has opened up about the emotional connection between his late son, Ifeanyi, and his newborn son, saying the resemblance between the two is “scary.”
Davido lost his first son, Ifeanyi, in a tragic drowning accident at his Banana Island home on November 1, 2022. Months after the tragedy, he quietly married his partner, Chioma Rowland. In October 2023, the couple welcomed twins—a boy and a girl—and later celebrated a grand wedding ceremony in June 2024.
In a recent interview with Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, Davido shared how the experience of welcoming twins, especially a son who looks strikingly like Ifeanyi, felt surreal.
“The boy looks just like my son that passed. It’s scary. It’s literally him. We’re like, ‘No, it’s him. He came back,’” he said.
Reflecting on the emotional toll of losing a child, Davido said it forced him to retreat and focus on healing. “That kind of loss makes you want to shut everything down. I just wanted to take care of my wife and family and get my head right,” he said.
Despite the heartbreak, Davido said the birth of his twins and the success of his Timeless album in 2023 reaffirmed his faith: “God is real.”
He added that the painful experience reshaped him and now inspires him to support others going through difficult times.
On his music journey, Davido expressed gratitude for how far he’s come. “I used to watch these stars online and dream—now I’m living it,” he said.
He also hinted at ongoing collaborations with American singer Chris Brown. “We’ve recorded about 20 songs. We could drop two albums right now,” he said, revealing plans for a potential joint project.
In addition to music, Davido confirmed his involvement in the film industry. “I’m an executive producer on a movie and a series with my director, Dammy Twitch. We’re also working on my documentary,” he said.
