Decamping to APC Will Backfire on Tinubu – Dr. Usman

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Governing Council, Dr. Abdlrahman Usman, has said that the recent wave of defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not benefit President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking in an interview, Usman argued that most of those crossing over to the ruling party are doing so out of fear and self-interest rather than genuine belief in APC’s ideology. According to him, many of them are only seeking protection from prosecution by anti-graft agencies like the EFCC.

“These politicians are not joining APC because they share Tinubu’s vision. They are only trying to save themselves, and in the long run, it will work against the president,” he said.

Dr. Usman criticised the Tinubu-led administration for worsening poverty, inflation, and insecurity across the country. He noted that Nigerians are struggling more than ever, and that government policies have failed to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

He also faulted the government’s handling of the economy, power supply, and the recent wave of presidential pardons, accusing the administration of promoting nepotism and protecting the interests of a few.

Reacting to claims that the country has turned the corner economically, Usman dismissed such statements as propaganda, insisting that insecurity and hardship remain widespread.

On the appointment of the new INEC chairman, he urged the commission to focus on credible electoral reforms and transparency. He called for a fully digital voting and results system that prevents manipulation and ensures that votes truly count.

Dr. Usman further warned that attempts by the APC to dominate all arms of government could lead to dangerous constitutional changes, including efforts to tamper with presidential term limits.

He called on Nigerians especially young people to stay alert and defend democracy. Despite the country’s challenges, he expressed hope that Nigeria will rise again through genuine reform and divine intervention.
