ABUJA — Tension gripped the National Assembly complex on Sunday after the decomposed body of a 55-year-old man was discovered inside a parked vehicle near the annex gate.

The deceased, identified as Gaddafi Iwar, a Tiv man suspected to be a construction labourer within the complex, was found inside a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF at about 9:00 a.m.

Sources said the vehicle had been parked in the same spot for a prolonged period before the grim discovery. The body was first moved to the National Assembly Clinic for confirmation and later taken to the Asokoro General Hospital, but it was rejected due to its advanced state of decomposition.

Eventually, the Tiv community and local youth leaders evacuated the remains to Gbawu Village, a border community between AMAC and Kuje Area Council, for burial to avert a potential health hazard.

The incident has raised serious concerns over security lapses within the high-security National Assembly premises, where vehicles and individuals typically undergo strict checks before entry.

As of press time, neither the management of the National Assembly nor the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, has issued an official statement regarding the development.
