Decomposed Body of Missing Niger State Islamiyya Teacher Found in Minna
The decomposed remains of Mallam Awwal Yakubu, a 45-year-old Islamiyya teacher and father of seven from Barikin-Saleh, Niger State, were discovered on Sunday, December 7, 2025, in an unfinished building at Talba Housing Estate, Minna.
Yakubu had been reported missing on Thursday, December 4, 2025. According to eyewitness accounts cited by Daily Trust, parts of his body were burnt, including his private areas, and a pack of matches was found near the corpse, raising concerns about the circumstances of his death.
Community leader Mallam Mahmud Dalhatu Iya confirmed that Yakubu’s family had identified the body and performed Islamic burial rites. “My attention was drawn to a decomposed body in an uncompleted building in our estate. We reported the matter to the police,” he said. “We later learnt from a friend of the deceased that he had been missing since Thursday. His remains have now been buried according to Islamic tradition.”
The Niger State Police Command also confirmed the discovery. SP Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s Public Relations Officer, stated, “On 7th December 2025, at about 10 a.m., a report was received that a corpse was found behind Talba Estate, Bida Road, Kpakungu. Police operatives of Kpakungu Division responded and discovered a decomposed body, later identified by relatives as Auwal Yakubu, 45, residing in the same area.”
He added, “The body is suspected to have been dumped at the location, as the deceased had been missing since December 4. The corpse was evacuated to the hospital, and investigations into the cause of death have commenced.”
Authorities have not yet revealed possible motives or suspects, and the community remains in shock over the gruesome nature of the discovery. Investigations are ongoing.
