‘Defeat the terrorists’: Chief of Army Staff sends urgent message to troops after Trump’s threat

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has called on troops of Operation HADIN KAI to prepare for a decisive phase in the fight against Boko Haram and ISWAP in the North-East.

Addressing soldiers in Maiduguri on Friday, Shaibu said the Nigerian Army was entering a critical stage of its counter-insurgency operations, stressing that “failure is not an option.”

He assured the troops that new platforms and combat enablers had been deployed to ensure victory, urging them to surpass the achievements of their predecessors.

His remarks come amid U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” citing alleged persecution of Christians. Trump warned that continued killings could prompt U.S. military intervention—an accusation the Nigerian government denied, insisting insecurity affects both Christians and Muslims.Headline news
