The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described the elective National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the authentic gathering recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, commended party members for their resilience and continued belief in the PDP as a platform for national development. He said the party’s future would depend on the sacrifices and commitment of its members.
“Leadership must not be selfish. It requires sacrifice for the good of the people and the growth of the party,” he stated.

The minister criticised politicians who defected from the party, accusing them of lacking leadership and abandoning the PDP during challenging times.
“Some of them used our platform to seek positions, but when crisis came, they ran away,” he said.
Wike also warned that those who left the party with its mandate would be held accountable.
“All those who took the mandate of the PDP and defected will be dealt with, and the mandate will be reclaimed,” he added.
He further took a swipe at governors who have defected, suggesting they lack the strength to withstand political pressure or external challenges.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Wike emphasised accountability, stating that performance would determine political survival.
“2027 will be about showing your report card. If you have nothing to show, nobody will defend you,” he said.
Despite internal challenges, Wike urged members to remain confident in the party’s strength and viability. He also called on aggrieved members to return and contribute to rebuilding and repositioning the PDP as a strong politiÿcal force.
