The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), on Thursday visited the Abuja residence of the late Brigadier General Musa Uba to commiserate with his family and express the Federal Government’s support for the Nigerian Armed Forces following the officer’s tragic passing.

The visit was described as a gesture of unity with the military and a mark of deep respect for the family of the fallen senior officer.
According to a statement shared on X, General Musa met with the widow and children of Brigadier General Uba, where he paid tribute to the late officer’s unwavering commitment, courage, and sacrifice in service to the nation.
The Chief of Defence Staff described Uba as a highly disciplined professional whose ultimate sacrifice embodied the core values of the Nigerian Armed Forces. He praised the officer’s gallantry, rare dedication, and selfless devotion to national duty.

During the visit, General Musa also reaffirmed the military’s resolve to sustain the fight against terrorism and other security challenges facing the country. He assured the family that the Federal Government remains committed to preserving the legacy of personnel who laid down their lives in defence of Nigeria.
Brigadier General Uba lost his life after a series of tragic events that began on Friday, November 14, 2025. While leading a joint patrol comprising Nigerian Army troops and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) along the Burum–Kubua axis in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, the team was ambushed by terrorists during their return from a routine operation in Biu.

Following the attack, the late officer reportedly escaped into the forest on foot and remained in contact with the Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai through satellite communication, confirming that he was alive, sharing his location, and indicating he was making his way back to base.

Security forces immediately launched search and rescue operations, deploying both ground troops and air support. However, while attempting to reconnect with the rescue teams, Brigadier General Uba was captured by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
On Monday, November 17, 2025, the terrorist group released disturbing images and footage showing the senior officer in captivity. He was later executed at close range, an act the group claimed was retaliation for military operations in the area.

The tragic incident has once again raised questions about how best to support the families of fallen heroes. Readers are invited to share their views on what the Nigerian government and military can do to honour and assist the family of the late Brigadier General Uba.
