The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as its sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement took place on Sunday during an APC Stakeholders’ Meeting held at the State Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba. The meeting brought together top leaders of the party, including serving and former National Assembly and State lawmakers, Commissioners, Local Government Council chairmen, and other political heavyweights from across Delta’s three senatorial districts.
Notably absent, however, was the former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege.
Governor Oborevwori, his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other former PDP members had defected to the APC in April 2025, in what was described as a major political realignment in the state.
Following their defection, internal tensions reportedly arose among key party leaders, delaying the convening of a large-scale stakeholders’ meeting until now.
The latest meeting is believed to be linked to the recent suspension of some of Omo-Agege’s loyalists, who were accused of attempting to control segments of the party’s grassroots structure.
During the meeting, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), moved a motion of confidence in President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori.
The motion was seconded by former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, and unanimously adopted by all stakeholders present.
Keyamo commended President Tinubu for his “bold reforms and transformative leadership,” particularly highlighting the removal of fuel subsidy, which he described as a responsible policy decision that redirected billions into critical infrastructure projects.
“Just two days ago, Mr. President approved $1 billion for the resuscitation of the Warri Port, among other projects,” Keyamo stated.
“He also mentioned key national undertakings like the Lagos-Calabar coastal road and Lagos Airport redevelopment — direct outcomes of subsidy savings. The President has proven to be a prudent manager and visionary leader.”
Keyamo also praised Governor Oborevwori for his “visionary leadership and massive infrastructural development” across Delta State.
Following the motion, the party formally adopted Tinubu and Oborevwori as its sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.
In his remarks, Victor Ochei lauded both leaders for their inclusive governance and developmental strides across Nigeria and Delta State.
Governor Oborevwori expressed deep appreciation to party members for their support and confidence.
“I want to thank you for the confidence you’ve reposed in us and for adopting us as sole candidates for 2027,” he said.
“The APC is growing stronger by the day — more governors will join us before the end of November.”
He praised President Tinubu as “a man who rewards loyalty, commitment, and results,” while warning party members against disloyalty.
“Some people in power today didn’t work for the APC, but we know them,” he cautioned.
“When the time comes, we’ll expose them. This time, loyalty will be rewarded, not hypocrisy.”
Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa described the April 2025 mass defection into the APC as “a turning point in Delta’s political history.”
“Today, I can confidently say that joining the APC was the right decision. The party is now stronger, more united, and better positioned for victory in 2027,” Okowa said.
In his welcome address, APC State Chairman, Omeni Sobotie, commended Oborevwori’s achievements, declaring that his leadership had made the Delta APC “formidable and unstoppable.”
“Anyone who plans to contest against the governor will meet a brick wall,” Sobotie asserted.
