#Delta Governor Oborevwori Confirms APC Defection: “PDP Palm Wine Has Lost Its Taste”

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has finally broken his silence following his dramatic defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the PDP has lost its appeal and no longer aligns with the aspirations of the people.

The defection, which marks a major political shift in the oil-rich state, was confirmed after a marathon stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday. The meeting saw the governor, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the state PDP chairman, the Speaker of the House, all local government chairmen, and other prominent figures officially switch allegiance to the APC.

Announcing the outcome, Senator James Manager said, “All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, and other key figures, have agreed to move to the APC. We cannot continue to stay in a sinking boat.”

Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, also confirmed the development, describing it as a unanimous decision made by PDP leaders and stakeholders across the state. He said the move was aimed at fostering unity, improving security, and accelerating development.

“In reaching this decision, we concluded that leaving the PDP was necessary to build stronger ties with our people and collaborate effectively for the progress of our state,” Aniagwu said.

Using a metaphor that resonated across social media, Aniagwu added, “The state of the PDP is akin to palm wine that has lost its taste — it no longer satisfies. So, we’ve decided to change our drinking pattern.”

He further revealed that a formal reception into the APC will take place next Monday, where Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to officially welcome Oborevwori and other defectors into the ruling party.
