The family of Dr. Jones Olakunle Sehindemi has announced his passing on 28 January 2026 at the age of 88.
Dr. Sehindemi was widely regarded as a distinguished elder, an accomplished professional, a celebrated socialite and a man of deep values whose life reflected service, dignity, and commitment to community.
Over the course of his years, he earned respect for his wisdom, calm leadership, and the positive influence he brought to those around him.
Beyond his personal and professional legacy, Dr. Sehindemi’s name was also immortalised in Nigerian popular culture. Decades ago, the ace musician King Sunny Ade released a celebrated song titled “Dr. Sehindemi,” which became a number one hit and enjoyed wide acclaim across the country and beyond.
The tribute song further reflected the esteem and prominence Dr. Sehindemi commanded in his time.
He was known not only for his intellectual contributions, but also for the strength of character with which he lived—leaving behind a legacy of integrity, mentorship, and compassion.
Tributes have continued to pour in from family, friends, colleagues, and associates who describe him as a man whose presence brought stability and whose counsel was treasured.
Dr. Sehindemi is survived by members of his immediate and extended family, as well as many whose lives were touched by his guidance and generosity.
May the Almighty God grant Dr. Jones Olakunle Sehindemi eternal rest and forgive his shortcomings.
May his gentle soul find peace in the bosom of the Lord.
