As political calculations quietly intensify ahead of 2027, one name increasingly mentioned across Kano Central’s 15 local governments is Dr. Mohammed Musa Zango — medical doctor, pharmacist, former Managing Director of NNPC Medical Services, and founder of the Fatah Zango Foundation.
In this exclusive interview with Headlinenews.news, he speaks candidly about his journey, his philosophy, party choice, grassroots structure, and what he calls “data-driven representation.”
Headlinenews.news: Please introduce yourself. Who is Dr. Mohammed Musa Zango?
Dr. Zango:
I am Dr. Mohammed Musa Zango, FPSN, FNAPharm, FHIMN, FOSHA, FIPN, FCAL FCIPMN, a pharmacist by training. I served as Managing Director of NNPC Medical Services for several years before retirement.
I am an indigene of Kano State and the founder of the Fatah Zango Foundation, which has, for over two decades, provided scholarships, medical outreach, micro-support to widows, educational materials, and welfare interventions across Kano and beyond.
Service defines me. Politics did not create that instinct — it only provides a wider platform for it.

Headlinenews.news: You are relatively new in partisan politics.
What inspired you to seek the Senate seat for Kano Central?
Dr. Zango:
The truth is simple. I was called upon. For over 20 years, through the Fatah Zango Foundation, we have supported students, paid hospital bills, drilled boreholes, empowered women, and partnered other humanitarian platforms.
The pressure from community leaders, elders, youth groups, and even traditional rulers became consistent: “If you can do this without holding office, imagine what you can do with legislative authority.”
I reflected deeply. Leadership is not accidental. As the Qur’an says:
قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ مَالِكَ الْمُلْكِ تُؤْتِي الْمُلْكَ مَن تَشَاءُ
“Say: O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give authority to whom You will…” (Qur’an 3:26)
If authority is given by Allah, then service must justify it. I accepted because I believe Kano Central deserves evidence-based, compassionate representation.

Headlinenews.news: How has the transition from corporate leadership to politics been?
Dr. Zango:
It is demanding. In corporate life, schedules are structured. In politics, you belong to the people. Your time is not yours anymore.
But because of our Foundation’s grassroots presence, I was already used to community engagement.
Politics simply expanded the scale.
Today, I visit wards, attend stakeholder meetings, meet youth groups, women associations, professionals — and listen.
Listening is leadership.
Headlinenews.news: Why did you choose the APC over NNPP or ADC?
Dr. Zango:
I conducted consultations before making that decision. Stability matters. Structure matters. Ideology matters.
The APC remains the most institutionally stable platform with a defined national reform direction.
It has internal conflict resolution mechanisms and governing experience at federal level.
Other parties are struggling with internal crises.
For Kano to benefit federally, alignment matters.
Development flows easier when representation aligns strategically with national direction. That is practical politics — not sentiment.
Headlinenews.news: Did you actively participate in the recent by-elections in Kano Municipal and Ungogo?
Dr. Zango:
Yes. Both fall within Kano Central. I mobilised ward structures and youth volunteers.
We were physically present throughout.
An aspirant must not hide during elections. Visibility builds confidence.
The outcome demonstrated that voters understand the value of strategic alignment with the Federal Government.

Headlinenews.news: There is an incumbent seeking continuity. What makes you different?
Dr. Zango:
I respect every leader. But representation must be measurable.
Kano Central comprises 15 Local Governments and 178 wards.
My team is finalising a constituency-wide needs-gap survey — ward by ward. This means projects will not be politically decorative. They will be data-driven.
We are mapping education gaps, primary healthcare deficits, youth unemployment clusters, water access statistics, and small-business financing needs.
When I speak of representation, I am speaking of numbers — not slogans.
Headlinenews.news: That sounds ambitious. What specifically would you prioritise as Senator?
Dr. Zango:
Three pillars:
Healthcare Modernisation: Upgrade primary health centres, attract federal teaching hospital extensions, and introduce mobile diagnostics in rural wards.
Education & Skills: Expand scholarship schemes, partner federal agencies for technical training, and align youth skills with industrial demand.
Microeconomic Empowerment: Structured microcredit for women and small traders, backed by corporate CSR partnerships and international development funds.
Kano Central’s population runs into millions.
Even incremental improvements across 178 wards will have multiplier effects.

Headlinenews.news: How will you fund these ambitions?
Dr. Zango:
First, legislative access enables federal constituency project allocations.
Second, I have strong corporate networks from my NNPC career.
CSR partnerships are realistic.
Third, structured fundraising through professional consultants.
Development is phased. You start with what is achievable and build credibility.
Headlinenews.news: Some critics say philanthropy is not governance. How do you respond?
Dr. Zango:
They are correct. Philanthropy is not governance.
But philanthropy reveals empathy. Governance requires empathy plus structure.
I bring both: administrative experience managing institutional systems and humanitarian instinct to prioritise the vulnerable.

Headlinenews.news: If you do not secure the APC ticket, what happens?
Dr. Zango:
I did not join APC conditionally.
I joined because I believe in its direction.
If I am not chosen, I remain loyal.
The Fatah Zango Foundation will continue its work, my Special intervention projects will continue to be implemented.
My commitment to Kano Central does not expire with a ticket.
Leadership is not desperation. It is service.

Headlinenews.news: We understand civil society platforms, including National Patriots voices, have shown support.
How do you interpret that?
Dr. Zango:
It is humbling. Endorsement is responsibility, not celebration.
It means expectations are high.
I am grateful.
Ultimately, legitimacy comes from the people.

Headlinenews.news:
Finally, why should APC delegates and the people of Kano Central trust you?
Dr. Zango:
Because my record predates my ambition.
For 20 years, we have delivered scholarships, medical outreach, widow support, boreholes, and youth interventions.
Not during election season — consistently.
I understand institutional systems.
I understand grassroots pain.
I understand federal structure
Kano Central deserves representation that is accessible, analytical, compassionate, and strategic.
Ihdinā ṣ-ṣirāṭ al-mustaqīm.
If given the opportunity, I will not experiment. I will execute.
“Guide us to the Straight Path.” (Qur’an 1:6).

Headlinenews.news: Some critics in today’s polarised climate are quick to label public figures. Can you be described as a religious bigot or extremist?
Dr. Zango:
Not at all. I lived in the United States, and that exposure alone reshaped my understanding of diversity, pluralism, and coexistence. You cannot live, study, and function effectively in that environment without developing respect for people of different faiths, cultures, and backgrounds.
Beyond that, I spent years in a structured corporate setting, leading teams made up of individuals from various religious and ethnic identities including expatriates.
In such environments, performance is what matters — competence, discipline, results.
You simply cannot afford to inject religious bias into professional responsibilities.
It would destroy teamwork and institutional credibility.
My faith guides my values — integrity, compassion, accountability — but it does not make me intolerant.
Leadership, especially in a place as diverse as Kano Central and Nigeria at large, requires balance, fairness, and maturity. Extremism has no place in responsible governance.
