International boxing star Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident in the Makun area of Ogun State on Monday, December 29.
The driver of the Lexus SUV linked to the crash has now been arraigned by the Ogun State Police Command. The suspect, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, appeared before a Sagamu Magistrate Court in Sagamu Local Government Area on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Police authorities confirmed that the 46-year-old driver was formally charged in connection with the incident.
“I wish to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, 2nd January, 2026,” the Police stated.
The defendant was charged on four counts, including dangerous driving causing death, in violation of Section 5(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F:135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as applicable in Ogun State.

Other charges include reckless and negligent driving under Section 6(1) of the Act; driving without due care and attention resulting in bodily harm and property damage, contrary to Section 7(1); and driving without a valid National Driver’s Licence, contrary to Section 10(1) of the Federal Highway Act.
The court granted Kayode bail in the sum of ₦5 million with two sureties, but he was remanded in custody pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.

The accident occurred while the driver was conveying Joshua and two of his associates, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The Lexus SUV reportedly rammed into a stationary truck, resulting in the deaths of Ayodele and Ghami at the scene. Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries.
Joshua was later discharged from the hospital on Wednesday evening after doctors confirmed he was fit to continue his recovery at home.
The former heavyweight champion and his mother were also reported to have visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay their last respects to the deceased, whose bodies were being prepared for repatriation.
