A video circulating online shows the destruction of a building in Offa, Kwara State, allegedly hit by remnants of a drone bomb attack just hours after United States President Donald Trump announced that the US military had carried out airstrikes against ISIS terrorists in Nigeria.
Residents of the area said they heard a loud explosion before the building was struck. Footage from the scene shows extensive damage to the structure and debris believed to be relics of a drone bomb.
As of the time of this report, authorities have not confirmed whether the incident in Offa was a separate attack or the result of fragments from the US airstrikes reportedly carried out in Sokoto State.
Earlier on Friday, the Nigerian government confirmed ongoing security and intelligence cooperation between Nigeria and the United States following airstrikes on terrorist targets in the North West. The government said the collaboration had resulted in precision airstrikes against terrorist locations in the region.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigerian authorities said the country remains engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States, to address terrorism and violent extremism.
The latest US action follows weeks of warnings by President Trump, who had urged the Nigerian government to take decisive action against terrorist violence, particularly against Christians, or face unilateral intervention. He also redesignated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
While the federal government has denied claims of an ongoing genocide against Christians, it has held high-level security discussions with US officials to address the concerns raised.
