DSS Arrests Man for Calling for Military Takeover on Social Media

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man, Innocent Chukwuma, in Oyigbo, Port Harcourt, for allegedly using social media to call for a military coup in Nigeria.

Chukwuma, who posted under the X handle @TheAgroman, reportedly urged the armed forces to “suspend the Nigerian government” and remove the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). In one post, he claimed only the military could “reset the country,” while also making derogatory remarks about President Bola Tinubu.

According to the DSS, operatives tracked and detained Chukwuma in Oyigbo. Though no formal charges have been filed yet, the agency said the suspect is cooperating with investigators.

The arrest comes amid heightened tension over alleged coup plots. Recently, Nigerian Army personnel raided the Abuja home of former Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, following intelligence reports linking him to meetings with detained officers.

The development follows President Tinubu’s October 24 military reshuffle, which replaced all service chiefs — a move that came weeks after reports surfaced about a possible coup and the army’s investigation of 16 officers for indiscipline.
