The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly questioned five aides of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf over allegations of cyberbullying and defamation following a petition filed by former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The petition accused the aides of allegedly coordinating online attacks and harassment targeted at Kwankwaso and his political associates. The accused officials were said to have been invited and interrogated for several hours by DSS operatives in Kano.
Those questioned reportedly include senior media and political aides serving within the Kano State Government, as well as individuals linked to political communication and youth mobilisation roles.

According to reports, the individuals honoured the DSS invitation after a formal complaint dated April 10, 2026, submitted under a political movement linked to Kwankwaso. The petition alleged sustained digital campaigns aimed at damaging his reputation and escalating political tensions in the state.
Kwankwaso further claimed that some of the alleged attacks were being carried out by individuals connected to official government positions, accusing them of using online platforms to spread defamatory content.

The aides were later released on administrative bail after several hours of questioning by DSS officials.
A spokesperson among those questioned confirmed their release, stating that they were held for about four hours before being granted bail on self-recognition, adding that legal proceedings were expected to follow.

The development comes amid rising political tension in Kano following recent party realignments involving key political figures in the state.
