DSS Questions Lagos NURTW Chairman Sego Over Alleged 2027 Election Threats

The Department of State Services (DSS) has interrogated Mustapha Sego, Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos, over alleged inflammatory remarks tied to the 2027 general elections.

In a viral video from a recent NURTW Lagos State Council meeting, Sego reportedly said, “Anyone who refuses to vote for APC or says they will vote against APC will be dealt with; they will learn a lesson. If you don’t listen to us, we won’t agree either.” The statement sparked widespread criticism for alleged voter intimidation.

Following the backlash, the DSS summoned Sego for questioning. In a video released on Friday by Goldmyne TV, Sego denied threatening anyone, claiming his words were misrepresented.

“I was invited by the DSS, and they asked about my statements. I didn’t threaten anyone. This is propaganda by those who don’t want my work in Lagos to succeed,” Sego said. He alleged that rival groups within the transport sector orchestrated the controversy to undermine his leadership.

“I was speaking about our union. In unions, there are rivals, and you can choose your group. We know who we support and vote for. There’s always an enemy in every job, and this is an attempt to destabilize me and the NURTW in Lagos,” he added.

The DSS has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
