The Department of State Services (DSS) has charged a 27-year-old man, Innocent Chukwuemeka Onukwume, for allegedly calling for a military coup in Nigeria through his social media posts.

The six-count charge, filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja (case number FHC/ABJ/CR/610/2025), accuses Onukwume, a resident of Oyigbo, Rivers State, of making inciting posts in October 2025.
According to the DSS, Onukwume used his verified X (Twitter) account, @theagroman, to post messages urging the military to overthrow the government, describing President Tinubu as having “sold the country to the West.” The posts reportedly included calls to “dispose of APC” and “suspend the Nigerian government.”
The agency alleges that his actions violate Sections 46A(1) and 59(1) of the Criminal Code Act, and Section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2024, which criminalize treasonable statements and online incitement against the government.

The DSS, represented by counsel A.M. Danalami, filed the charges on November 11, and Onukwume is expected to be arraigned later this week.
The case comes amid a growing trend of online posts calling for a coup since President Bola Tinubu took office in 2023, with the DSS warning that it is actively monitoring such conversations on social media.
