Thompson faces an eight-count charge related to obtaining money through false pretences. The EFCC claims he collected funds from several victims by promising lucrative investments in mineral resources and deep-seaport projects.

The alleged victims, including Tammy Jensen, Kenneth Blad, and Peter Jensen, were reportedly unaware that they were being deceived.

According to the charge sheet, one of the counts states: “Between April 2024 and December 2024, within Nigeria, with intent to defraud, you, Victor Ekpeyong Thompson, fraudulently obtained $213,350 from Tammy Jensen, Peter Jensen, Kenneth Blad, and others under the pretense of investing in mining and deep-sea port business, contrary to Section 1 (1) (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006, punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act.”

Thompson pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.

Prosecution counsel, Joshua Abolarin, requested that the court set a trial date and remand Thompson in custody. Defence counsel, Savn Daniel, applied for bail, which the prosecution opposed.

Justice Adaobi adjourned the case to March 19, 2026, for a ruling on the bail application and the start of the trial. The defendant has been ordered to remain at the EFCC detention facility in Uyo until further proceedings.
