The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 10 individuals over alleged illegal mining activities in Kwara State, seizing trucks reportedly carrying unlawfully mined solid minerals.
In a statement on Monday, the EFCC said operatives from its Ilorin Zonal Directorate conducted the arrests on Sunday, February 1, 2026, along the Ilorin–Ogbomosho axis.

The anti-graft agency explained that the operation followed credible intelligence on illegal mineral excavation and transportation in parts of Kwara and Oyo states.
“The suspects, comprising nine truck drivers and one escort, were intercepted and taken into custody in a well-coordinated sting operation. Solid minerals recovered include lithium, tin, and lepidolite,” the EFCC statement read.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects lacked the necessary licences, permits, or regulatory approvals required for mining or transporting solid minerals. Trucks carrying the unlawfully mined materials were also seized during the operation.
The EFCC confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the probe.
