Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested eight suspects and impounded six trucks in connection with alleged illegal mining activities along the Ilorin–Ogbomoso corridor, spanning Kwara and Oyo states.

The EFCC disclosed on Monday that the suspects were apprehended on Saturday, February 20, 2026, following credible intelligence and days of surveillance targeting unlawful mineral excavation and transportation in the region.
This latest operation brings to 18 the total number of individuals arrested by the Ilorin Zonal Directorate in the past month over similar illegal mining activities.

The six trucks intercepted were reportedly carrying assorted minerals suspected to include lithium and kaolin, both high-demand resources in local and international markets.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects operated without the necessary licences, permits, or regulatory approvals as required under Nigeria’s mining laws.
The EFCC stated that the suspects would be arraigned in court following the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
