EFCC Calls for Stronger Media, CSO Collaboration in Anti-Corruption Fight

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged enhanced cooperation with the media and civil society organizations (CSOs) to combat corruption and financial crimes. Speaking at a capacity-building workshop for journalists and CSOs in Lagos on October 16, 2025, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, represented by acting Director Adebayo Adeniyi, emphasized the critical role of these groups as societal watchdogs in promoting transparency and accountability.

Olukoyede highlighted the global importance of such partnerships in fostering good governance, particularly in Nigeria, where sophisticated crimes like foreign exchange scams and property fraud are prevalent, especially in Lagos. He noted the EFCC’s Specialised Workshop Series on Economic and Financial Crimes Reporting, launched in 2022 for journalists and now expanded to include CSOs, to boost civic engagement.

Stressing the need for collective action, he urged stakeholders to intensify public education and expose corrupt practices, stating, “The fight against corruption is a national duty.” The EFCC remains committed to building partnerships to create a Nigeria where integrity and justice prevail.
