EFCC Secures 7,000 Convictions, Recovers Over ₦500bn in Assets – Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima announced that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured over 7,000 convictions and recovered assets exceeding ₦500 billion in the past two years.

Speaking at a capacity-building workshop for judges and justices in Abuja, organized by the EFCC and the National Judicial Institute, Shettima credited the agency’s progress to the Tinubu administration’s non-interference, enabling the EFCC to fulfill its anti-corruption mandate.

Recovered proceeds are funding social investment programs, such as student loans and consumer credit schemes. Shettima emphasized the government’s commitment to the rule of law, ensuring no political shielding of corrupt officials, and urged judges to uphold transparency and patriotism in adjudication.

He highlighted that corruption affects all, including the judiciary, as judges share the same public services and face the same insecurities. A robust judicial system, he stressed, is vital to winning the fight against corruption, calling for collective commitment to ensure accountability and support Nigeria’s growth.
