Nigerians joined Muslims around the world to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, with renewed calls for unity, peace, and national cohesion taking centre stage across the country.

Speaking after the prayers, the President urged Nigerians to embrace peaceful coexistence and collective responsibility as key drivers of national development. He emphasized that security and stability should not be left to the government alone but require active participation from all citizens.

He also encouraged Nigerians to sustain the values learned during Ramadan and Lent, including compassion, generosity, and kindness, stressing that such virtues should continue beyond the festive season.

The President noted that despite differences in religious practices, Nigerians share a common belief in one God, which should serve as a unifying force rather than a source of division. He added that nation-building requires inclusivity, mutual respect, and appreciation of the country’s diversity.

During the Eid sermon, the Chief Imam of Lagos, Sulaiman Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla, called on Muslims to maintain discipline, piety, and peaceful living, warning against actions that could heighten tensions in society.

In Maiduguri, Vice President Kashim Shettima joined thousands of worshippers for prayers, reiterating the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing insecurity and other national challenges.

He highlighted the significance of the overlap between Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season, describing it as a moment for reflection, tolerance, and renewed dedication to unity and nation-building.

Other prominent figures present at various Eid activities included Nuhu Ribadu, Femi Gbajabiamila, Babatunde Fashola, and Babagana Zulum.

Across the country, religious and political leaders stressed that peace remains essential for sustainable development, urging Nigerians to remain united in tackling insecurity and economic challenges.
