The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) suspended their industrial action, which began on Thursday, September 25, 2025. The decision was formalized in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), and the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) in Abuja.
The MoU stated: “The Union agreed to suspend their action to allow these resolutions to be activated.” This followed an ultimatum issued by the unions to TCN management, which expired on September 23, 2025. The Minister of Power, represented by the Director Distribution Services and Director Planning, Research and Statistics, intervened to address the unions’ picketing.
MoU Agreements
– The unions will review a committee’s report by October 6–7, 2025, for implementation starting in October 2025.
– TCN and NISO will assess the report’s financial implications and develop an implementation plan, to be discussed with the Minister and unions.
– Additional meetings with TCN and NISO will address remaining issues.
– The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) was urged to expedite tariff reviews for TCN and NISO to support the report’s implementation.
– No employee will face victimization for participating in the industrial action.
