EMBATTLED PASTOR CHRIS OKAFOR SURRENDERS TO POLICE

The Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, has surrendered himself to the police following allegations of multiple rape and other offences capable of breaching public peace, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed.

The case has reportedly been transferred to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Sylvester Alabi, for further investigation.

Okafor’s surrender comes after he failed to honour a police invitation on Monday. He had been invited on Sunday by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, in connection with the allegations.

Speaking in an interview with TVC on Wednesday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, said the cleric initially communicated through his lawyer that he would appear on Monday.

“When he was invited, he got to us through his lawyer that he would be appearing on Monday. So, on Monday, we waited for him. We didn’t see him, and I directed that he should be arrested. Subsequently, he showed up yesterday (Tuesday). Yes, he showed up yesterday,” Jimoh said.

The Commissioner added that the matter had been transferred to Zone 2 for continued investigation.

“We later learned that the same matter had been opened at the Zone 2 headquarters with the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, which I needed to verify, and I verified the same,” he stated.

According to Jimoh, the AIG informed him that the case had been under investigation at Zone 2 for about three weeks.
