Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The development was confirmed by the Enugu APC Caretaker Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, who spoke to journalists on Friday.
According to Nwoye, Governor Mbah will be formally received into the APC on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu, alongside several key figures — including federal and state lawmakers, members of the state executive council, and local government leaders across the state.
The defection comes shortly after the APC National Working Committee (NWC) dissolved the Enugu State Working Committee (SWC) over internal disagreements, replacing it with a seven-member caretaker committee to manage party affairs.
Mbah’s move adds to the growing list of prominent politicians defecting to the ruling party. In recent months, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, also dumped the PDP for the APC.
During their defection ceremonies in Uyo and Asaba, former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, revealed that more opposition governors and party leaders were preparing to join the APC ahead of the next election cycle.
Similarly, on October 8, Senator Kelvin Chukwu, representing Enugu East, announced his defection from the Labour Party (LP) to the APC, raising the ruling party’s Senate seats to 73 — a two-thirds majority that gives the APC significant legislative influence in the 109-member Senate.
