Enugu State Police Commissioner Mohammed Aliyu ordered the immediate rescue of Stanley Eguma, head coach of Rivers United FC, who was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified gunmen on June 15.
The order is contained in a statement issued by the command police public relations officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, in Enugu on Wednesday.
Eguma was reportedly seized on the Enugu-Port Harcourt highway around 4 p.m. on his way back from Gombe to Port Harcourt after an NPFL game.
“The unidentified gunmen, operating in a white Hilux van, followed and forced the black Hilux van carrying Eguma to stop; the attackers pushed two of the passengers and fled with the black Hilux, thus removing Eguma, ”the statement read.
The police superintendent has ordered that no stone be overlooked to save Eguma.
According to the statement, the commissioner urged members of the public to provide the police with useful information.
“The order hotlines to call are 08032003702, 08075390883, 08086671202 or 08098880172… send an email to: email@example.com,” the police said.
Efforts by the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) correspondent to speak with club officials and those from the Rivers Sports Department about Eguma’s kidnapping were unsuccessful. (NAA)
