Liverpool have announced that striker Alexander Isak has undergone surgery following a serious ankle injury that left him with a fractured fibula in his left leg.

According to a statement cited by BBC Sport on Tuesday, the club confirmed the procedure was successful, although no specific return date has been given. Liverpool indicated that the Sweden international is expected to be out of action for several months.
The 26-year-old picked up the injury during Saturday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur. Isak had come on as a substitute and scored for Arne Slot’s team, but was injured in the process after a challenge from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven moments after he struck the ball. He was clearly distressed and could not continue, leaving the pitch with assistance from the medical staff.
The setback represents a major blow for both player and club. Isak joined Liverpool in the summer in a deal worth a reported £125m, a Premier League record fee. Since completing his move from Newcastle in September, he has managed three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.
The injury adds to what has been a challenging year for the striker. During the summer, he missed Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia due to what was described at the time as a minor thigh issue, as speculation over his future intensified. He later trained individually at former club Real Sociedad before sealing his transfer to Liverpool on deadline day.
