The by-elections were conducted for the Kano Municipal and Ungogo state constituencies and were marked by a calm atmosphere throughout the exercise.

According to the governor, the orderly conduct of the polls reflected increased political maturity among residents as well as the effectiveness of security measures deployed for the elections. He praised electoral officials and security agencies for their roles in ensuring a smooth and peaceful process.

Yusuf also expressed appreciation to voters in Kano Municipal and Ungogo for their cooperation and commitment to non-violent participation, noting that the elections demonstrated a growing acceptance of issue-based politics built on dialogue, tolerance, and respect for democratic values.

He added that the peaceful outcome aligned with his administration’s vision for the state, stressing that the era of voter intimidation, violence, and disenfranchisement was coming to an end.

Notably, three major opposition parties — the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — did not feature on the ballot papers during the by-elections.

Kano State has historically experienced election-related violence and is often regarded as one of Nigeria’s electoral flashpoints, making the calm nature of the by-elections particularly significant.
