Former senator representing Kogi Central, Ahmed Ogembe, has ridiculed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for announcing his suspension, insisting he had already defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The Kogi PDP had suspended Ogembe over alleged anti-party activities, accusing him of collapsing the party’s structure in Okene LGA into the ADC. His suspension was contained in a letter dated August 22, signed by Anthony Momoh, PDP zonal vice-chairman (Central) and caretaker chairman of Okene LGA. The party described his actions as “gross misconduct, betrayal of trust, and acts capable of undermining the PDP in the state.”
Reacting in a statement on Saturday, Ogembe dismissed the move, saying the PDP could not suspend someone who had already left.
“You cannot suspend someone who is no longer under your platform,” he said.
He explained that he and the authentic PDP executives in Okene LGA had formally resigned from the party and joined the ADC with their full structures and supporters. According to him, “PDP in Okene has been practically emptied, with only paper remnants left behind.”
Ogembe’s resignation letter, dated August 10 and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Upogoro/Odenku, Okene LGA, stated that his decision followed “careful consideration and wide consultations” with his associates, supporters, and family. Nuhu Suleiman, the ward chairman, acknowledged receipt of the letter on August 18.
Ogembe added that while he remains grateful for the platform the PDP once offered him, his move to ADC represents a new political direction aligned with his convictions.
