The Federal Government has announced plans to establish cattle breeding centers in each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones—South-West, South-East, South-South, North-West, North-Central, and North-East—as part of broader efforts to boost the country’s livestock sector.
This was revealed by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Abdullahi, during a two-day interactive session on Government-Citizens Engagement held in Kaduna. The event, organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, was themed “Assessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizens Engagement for National Unity.”
Speaking during a plenary session focused on agriculture and food security, Abdullahi stated that the Bola Tinubu-led administration is strategically prioritizing investments in livestock development under its Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasized that the federal government is committed to fostering inter-sectoral collaboration to achieve lasting solutions in the agricultural sector.
Abdullahi also disclosed that the Ministry of Agriculture is working closely with the Ministry of Education to redesign the educational curriculum for young farmers. This initiative, he explained, is aimed at equipping the younger generation with modern, technology-driven agricultural knowledge and innovative farming techniques to enhance productivity and secure the nation’s food supply.
He further stressed the importance of synergy among key ministries, including agriculture, environment, water resources, livestock development, and the marine and blue economy, to effectively implement the Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthen national food security.
