FG FILES FRESH CHARGES AGAINST OZEKHOME OVER ALLEGED FORGERY IN UK PROPERTY DISPUTE

The Federal Government has filed fresh 12-count criminal charges against prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Mike Ozekhome before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja.

The new charges, instituted on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, relate to alleged forgery and fraud connected to the use of a forged Nigerian passport during litigation over a disputed property in London.

The development escalates the long-running legal battle surrounding Ozekhome’s involvement in claims over a property located at 79 Randall Avenue, London NW2 7SX.

Court documents obtained by newsmen show the charges were filed after an earlier case was struck out by Justice Peter Kekemeke of the FCT High Court following the withdrawal of previous charges by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The withdrawal was initiated by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), which requested time to review and consolidate investigations involving multiple agencies.

The controversy stems from a UK First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) ruling in September 2025, which dismissed ownership claims over the property, describing key parties as impostors and finding that several documents presented were forged or deceptive.

The tribunal ruled that the property belonged to the estate of the late General Jeremiah Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, concluding that the name “Tali Shani” had been used as a false identity to conceal offshore assets.

Ozekhome was reportedly in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) earlier on Tuesday and was expected to be re-arraigned based on the fresh charges.

The case continues to draw significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the accused and the international dimensions of the property dispute.
