The Federal Government has announced a 50% increase in scholarship grants for the 2025/2026 academic cycle, offering higher financial support to undergraduates, postgraduates, and NCE/HND students in a bid to cushion the rising cost of education.
Minister of Education, Olatunji Alausa, disclosed the new funding structure on Friday via the ministry’s official X (Twitter) handle. He explained that the adjustment forms part of a broader reform of the National Scholarship Programme, designed to strengthen youth development and ease the financial burden on students across the country.
Revised Scholarship Rates
The increment applies to all major scholarship schemes, including the Nigerian Scholarship Award. Under the updated package, beneficiaries will now receive:
- Postgraduate students: ₦750,000 annually (up from ₦500,000)
- Master’s students: ₦600,000 annually (up from ₦400,000)
- Undergraduates, HND & NCE students: ₦450,000 annually (up from ₦300,000)
The Federal Government has earmarked ₦6 billion for the 2025/2026 scholarship cycle, targeting over 15,000 beneficiaries nationwide.
According to the ministry, the increase is aimed not only at expanding access to higher education but also at ensuring that talented students from less privileged backgrounds can complete their studies without severe financial hardship.
