The Federal Government has called on the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) to suspend its planned nationwide strike set for Monday, stemming from its conflict with Dangote Refinery over the dismissal of Nigerian workers and alleged anti-labor practices.
On Sunday, Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, urged PENGASSAN to reconsider its strike action to allow for dialogue and a peaceful resolution. He appealed to the union’s leadership to withdraw the strike notice, assuring that his office would mediate the dispute in a fair and amicable manner, prioritizing national interests.
The dispute intensified after PENGASSAN condemned the sacking of over 800 workers at Dangote Refinery, labeling it a violation of labor rights and a dangerous precedent. The union has ordered a nationwide withdrawal of services in response. The Minister emphasized the need for both parties to prioritize peace and engage in constructive talks to resolve the issue satisfactorily.
