The Federal Government has debunked reports suggesting that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa, through Director of Press Boriowo Folasade, described the claims as false and misleading, clarifying that no such directive came from the Ministry.
Alausa reaffirmed JAMB’s role as the sole body responsible for conducting entrance exams and coordinating admissions into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. He stressed that the admission process through JAMB remains fully operational and urged the public to disregard contrary information. The Ministry emphasized its commitment to transparency, fairness, and merit in admissions, cautioning media and bloggers to verify information to avoid confusion.
JAMB, established in 1977, administers the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for candidates with WASSCE, NECO, or equivalent qualifications. The Ministry advised students, parents, and institutions to rely on official channels for accurate information on admission policies.
