The Minister of State for Works, Barr. Mohammed Goronyo, says the Federal Government is looking to deepen its partnership with the People’s Republic of China to upgrade Nigeria’s road infrastructure and equip local engineers with modern technical skills.

Goronyo made this known during a meeting with a high-level delegation from CGGC Global Plc in Abuja, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed.
The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to adopting global best practices in engineering and outlined key areas where Nigeria hopes to collaborate with China. These include:

Training programmes for Nigerian engineers in China
Provision of modern road construction and maintenance equipment
Transfer of advanced engineering technologies to support local adaptation and long-term sustainability

Responding, CGGC Vice President He Yongjun expressed the company’s interest in supporting Nigeria’s infrastructure goals. He, however, requested more direct access to project opportunities, noting reservations about participating strictly through the Public-Private Partnership framework — the government’s approved and transparent procurement process.

The delegation was received by the Minister of State, alongside senior officials from the Ministry and the Managing Director of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Dr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi.
The CGGC team included Vice President He Yongjun, Security Director Song Yunwu, Tian Yimeng of the Africa Marketing Department, Peng Changbing from the Project Management Department, and other top officials.
