#FG Shutdown Akanu Ibiam Int’l Airport For Emergency Rehabilitation

The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu for urgent runway rehabilitation.

In a statement released on Friday, April 18, 2025, Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), disclosed that the shutdown became necessary due to a sudden and severe rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway.

The emergency repairs are scheduled to take place from April 22 to May 6, 2025.

“In compliance with Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations and as part of FAAN’s commitment to passenger safety and infrastructure upgrades, the runway will remain closed to all landings and takeoffs during the repair period,” Orah said.

She added that flights scheduled to land at the Enugu airport will be redirected to nearby airports during the closure.

“We appeal to all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation. We sincerely apologise for the short notice and any inconvenience this may cause,” she added.
