FG TASKS BUA ON FACTORY COMPLETION IN KWARA TO BOOST SUGAR PRODUCTION

The Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, has called on BUA Foods to expedite the completion of its large-scale sugar factory in Lafiagi, Kwara State.

Enoh made the call during an inspection tour of sugar projects across the country, noting that the directive aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s push for Nigeria to achieve self-sufficiency in sugar production.

He highlighted that the scale, investment, and progress of the Lafiagi project demonstrate a strong commitment to the goals of the backward integration programme.

The minister, accompanied by the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), Mr. Kamar Bakrin, emphasized the need for operators to move from planning to full production. He also stressed the importance of accelerating sugarcane cultivation to match factory capacity, pointing out that farm expansion is essential for full operational readiness.

Enoh reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with serious investors, traditional institutions, and host communities to ensure the success of the initiative.
