Lagos was struck by grief again on Monday, September 29, 2025, with the death of Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, Council Manager of Coker Aguda LCDA and Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State. Mrs. Akinola, who succumbed to a brief illness, marks the fifth female council official to die in Lagos since the current administration’s inauguration on July 27, 2025.
The Forum of Council Managers confirmed her passing in a statement, noting that her burial, in accordance with Islamic rites, is scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, 2025, following Janazah prayers at Al Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin. She will be laid to rest at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara.
Council Managers serve as the administrative and accounting heads of Lagos State’s 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs.
This loss follows a series of recent tragedies:
– August 13: Oluwakemi Rufai, councillor, Ibeju Lekki LG.
– August 18: Zainab Shotayo, councillor, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA.
– September 20: Princess Oluremi Ajose, Vice Chairman, Badagry West LCDA.
– September 21: Basirat Mayabikan, councillor, Somolu LG.
The alarming sequence of deaths has sparked concern in political and public spheres, prompting questions about the sudden loss of female council officials in such a short timeframe.
