#Five Nigerians Arrested in Libya for Alleged Theft of Farm Electrical Equipment

Authorities in Sabha, Libya, have arrested five Nigerian nationals accused of stealing electrical equipment from a local farm.

The arrests were disclosed by Migrant Rescue Watch via social media on Monday, May 26, 2025. According to the report, officers from the Al-Qahira Police Department carried out the operation on Sunday, May 25, and subsequently transferred the suspects to the public prosecution for further legal action.

A statement posted on social media read:

“#Libya 25.05.25 – Al-Qahira Police Dept. (Sabha) arrested 5 #migrants of Nigerian nationality for theft of electrical equipment from a farm. All referred to public prosecution for legal action…”

This incident adds to growing concerns over crimes involving foreign nationals in Libya, a country that continues to face migration challenges and security issues.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently announced the arrest of 22 Nigerian nationals in connection with financially driven sextortion schemes that have tragically contributed to a rise in suicides among American teenagers.

The arrests were part of Operation Artemis, a landmark international operation conducted in collaboration with law enforcement agencies from Nigeria, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

According to the FBI, nearly half of those arrested were directly linked to victims who died by suicide after being extorted online.

FBI Director Kash Patel emphasized the agency’s commitment to protecting vulnerable populations:

“Operation Artemis exemplifies the FBI’s never-ending mission to protect our most vulnerable, and to pursue the heinous criminals harming our children — no matter where they hide.”

He further stressed the importance of global cooperation in tackling online threats and urged parents to educate their children about internet safety.

“We hope this message encourages parents and guardians to continue educating their children about online safety and serves as a reminder of the FBI’s relentless pursuit of justice.”
