Former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido Declares Bid for PDP National Chairmanship

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has officially announced his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Lamido made this known in a post on his verified Facebook page on Monday, stating that he would visit the PDP national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, to obtain his nomination form.

“By the grace of God, I shall today, Monday, 27th October 2025, at 11 a.m., be at the national headquarters of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, to purchase the nomination form to run for the office of National Chairman,” he wrote.

Lamido, a prominent PDP figure and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, reaffirmed his commitment to revitalizing the party ahead of upcoming elections.

“My commitment to democracy and my determination to restore our dear party to its former glory is unwavering,” he added.

The PDP, which led Nigeria between 1999 and 2015, is set to elect a new national chairman during its national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

During the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in August, the 2027 presidential ticket was zoned to the South, while the national chairmanship position was zoned to the North, in line with party tradition.

The position was further micro-zoned to the North-West region. Among those said to be interested in the role are former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, Sule Lamido, and Kabiru Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties.

Jigawa State, where Lamido hails from, is one of the states in the North-West geopolitical zone.
