Speaking on Friday at the launch of the book “Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum” written by former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, in Abuja, Obasanjo described the insurgency as a “monster” that has crept into the daily lives of Nigerians.
“Boko Haram is now virtually becoming part of our life. Should we accept that? If we should not accept it, what should we do? How much do we know? From both sides—have we been active enough? Have we been proactive enough? We have to ask ourselves these critical questions to confront this menace that is becoming a monster in our country,” he said.
The former president, who also wrote the foreword of the book, commended Irabor for showing courage in sharing his insider experience of the fight against terrorism for the sake of history.
The event was attended by former President Goodluck Jonathan, current and former service chiefs, governors—both past and present—as well as religious leaders.
