FOUR RIVERS ASSEMBLY LAWMAKERS MAKE U-TURN, BACK FUBARA’S IMPEACHMENT (VIDEO)

Four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have reversed their earlier stance and declared support for the ongoing impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

The lawmakers made their position known on Friday in Port Harcourt, during a press conference where they aligned themselves with colleagues pushing for the governor’s removal.

WHY THEY CHANGED POSITION

According to the lawmakers, their decision to back the impeachment was driven by what they described as Governor Fubara’s lack of remorse over the allegations raised against him by the Assembly.

They argued that, rather than seeking reconciliation or addressing the issues, the governor had failed to show willingness to engage constructively with the legislature.

POLITICAL TENSION IN RIVERS

The impeachment move is the latest development in the deepening political crisis in Rivers State, where relations between the executive and the legislature have remained strained for months.

The Assembly has accused Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu of actions it claims amount to gross misconduct — allegations the governor’s camp has previously dismissed.

A BRIEF BACKSTORY

Siminalayi Fubara, who assumed office amid high expectations, has faced persistent resistance within the State Assembly, leading to repeated confrontations that have stalled governance and sharpened political divisions.

The sudden U-turn by the four lawmakers adds fresh momentum to the impeachment process and could influence the direction of the unfolding power struggle at the state level.

With more lawmakers now openly backing the impeachment, attention turns to whether the Assembly can secure the numbers required to push the process forward — and how the governor will respond in the coming days.
