Fubara and Wike break silence after Tinubu resolves Rivers crisis, say ‘we’ve agreed to work together’ (Video)

In a major breakthrough, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has successfully resolved the long-standing political conflict between Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

The reconciliation took place during a high-stakes closed-door meeting held on Thursday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, bringing an end to months of political unrest in the oil-rich state.

Wike and Fubara Agree to Reunite for Rivers State’s Peace

After the crucial meeting, Wike confirmed the reconciliation, stating that all parties have agreed to work together in the interest of Rivers State.

“We have all agreed to work together with the governor, and the governor has also agreed to work with all of us,” Wike told journalists.

“We are members of the same political family. Just like every family, disagreements happen, but they must also be resolved. Today, we’ve resolved ours and reported to Mr. President.”

Wike added, “For me, everything is over, and I’m filled with joy. We thank Almighty God for this resolution.”

Fubara Emphasizes Peace as Foundation for Progress

Also speaking after the meeting, Governor Siminalayi Fubara expressed optimism, stressing that peace is essential for the growth and stability of Rivers State.

“What we need for the progress of Rivers State is peace, and by the special grace of God, with the help of Mr. President and the leaders of the state, peace has returned. We will do everything within our power to ensure that we sustain it this time around.”

Inside the Wike-Fubara Political Crisis

The rift between Wike and Fubara began shortly after the latter assumed office, fueled by a power tussle over control of Rivers State’s political machinery. Wike, the former governor, was accused of attempting to retain influence, while Fubara sought to assert his independence as the sitting governor.

The fallout led to governance paralysis, division within the state assembly, and an impeachment attempt against Fubara. The state was thrown into chaos as lawmakers split into factions loyal to either Wike or Fubara.

Tinubu’s Intervention and Declaration of State of Emergency

Despite earlier mediation efforts, the crisis persisted until President Tinubu intervened decisively. On March 18, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing political instability and governance failure.

He suspended Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all state assembly members for six months, appointing retired naval chief Ibok-Ette Ibas as Sole Administrator.

Fubara’s suspension is scheduled to end in September 2025, marking the end of a turbulent chapter in Rivers State politics.

Peace Restored – What Lies Ahead

With Thursday’s reconciliation, political observers hope that Rivers State can now focus on development, governance, and economic stability. President Tinubu’s successful mediation is seen as a major diplomatic victory that reinforces federal leadership in maintaining peace and unity across Nigeria’s federating units.
