Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The announcement was made in a statewide broadcast on Friday, alongside members of his cabinet and key state officials.

Fintiri described the defection as a move aimed at advancing the “developmental interest of Adamawa residents.”

This follows a similar move by Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, who rejoined the APC in late January 2026, citing the desire to work more closely with the federal government under President Bola Tinubu.

With these latest defections, APC now controls 30 out of Nigeria’s 36 states, leaving PDP governing only Oyo, Bauchi, and Zamfara States. Other states remain under smaller parties, with Anambra led by APGA, Abia by the Labour Party, and Osun by the Accord Party.

The APC-governed states now include Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, and Yobe.
