Morocco delivered a standout performance at the 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat, where Achraf Hakimi was crowned African Player of the Year, becoming the first defender to claim the honour in 52 years. His win marks Morocco’s first since Mustapha Hadji in 1998 and follows two consecutive years of finishing as runner-up.

Hakimi’s recognition highlighted a strong night for Moroccan football. Ghizlane Chebbak was named Women’s Player of the Year, while Yassine Bounou won Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year. Rising stars also earned recognition, with Othmane Maamma winning Young Player of the Year (Men) and Doha El Madani taking the Women’s Young Player award.

Cape Verde coach Bubista won Coach of the Year, and Pyramids FC secured Men’s Club of the Year. The Morocco U20 team was awarded Men’s Team of the Year.
Nigeria also made its mark. The Super Falcons were named Women’s Team of the Year, and Chiamaka Nnadozie won Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the third straight time.
