Nigeria senate welcome to a new Legislative Day in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Senate President @DrAhmadLawan leads the Principal Officers into the Chamber, takes the official prayers and begin the day’s proceedings at 10:53am.

Senator Hezekiah Dimka moves for the adoption of the Votes and Proceedings of Wednesday, 23rd February, 2022. Senator Nora Ladi Daduut seconds. Votes and Proceedings of Wednesday, 23rd February, 2022 were approved.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan reads three letters from President on:

i. Request for Confirmation of Appointment of two new members and renewal of five members on the Monetary Policy Committee in the Central Bank of Nigeria

ii. Transmission of the Nigeria Start-up Bill 2021 for consideration. The Bill aims to establish the National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

iii. Electoral Act Amendment 2022, Matters Arising: President Buhari  raises concern on Section 84(12).

The provision according to  Muhammadu Buhari  has introduced disqualification material that ultra vires the Constitution to serving political office holders which they are constitutionally accorded protection. He requested the National Assembly to consider immediate amendment to the clause, Senator Ayo Akinyelure presented five petitions from the Office of the Senate President: i. Petition from K. O. Fatai-Oso and Bello-Osagie A. Teslim on behalf of the Akinam/Ebede family against the Nigerian Agip Company (NAOC) calling for Senate intervention for payment of arrears of rent and royalties due on 48 years on 225 hectares of land.

Petition from Taiwo KK Omotade against the Nigeria Army on the arbitrary compulsory retirement by the Nigerian Army
iii. Petition from Dr. Babatunde Agbi against the National Open University of Nigeria on refusal of National Open University to pay for services rendered.

iv. Petition from Dr. Theophilus C. N. Ndubuaku on behalf of Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions against the Head of Service of the Federation to rescue the entire Nigerian Research Institutions Sector from collapse.

v. Petition from Dr. J. E. Jessah against Chief Chike Loiuis Nwabuwa (Assistant Commissioner of Police) Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State on lawlessness, impunity, terror, carnage, murder, rape, etc by the youths of Azungwu Community of Ogwashi-Uku, sponsored by Chief Chike Loiuis Nwabuwa (a serving Assistant Commissioner of Police) and his Associates over the Chieftaincy Title of Odogwu of Ogwashi-Uku. Petitions were laid and referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to report back within four weeks.

Conference Committee Report Nigeria Postal Services Act Cap N127 LFN 2004 (Repeal & Re-enactment) Bill, 2022 (SB. 657) by Senator Ajayi Boroffice.
